Nervous Tissue
Nervous tissue is a complex and specialized type of tissue that forms the basis of the nervous system. It is composed of neurons, which are the functional units of the nervous system, and neuroglial cells that support and protect neurons. Neurons consist of a cell body, dendrites that receive signals, and axons that transmit signals to other neurons or target cells. Nervous tissue is responsible for transmitting electrical impulses, coordinating sensory and motor functions, and regulating physiological processes in the body. Medical students studying histology must have a comprehensive understanding of nervous tissue to comprehend the intricate functioning of the nervous system and its role in maintaining homeostasis and responding to external stimuli.
