Fungal Infections and Mycology
Fungal infections can affect various organ systems and present a diverse array of clinical manifestations. Fungi can be opportunistic pathogens, causing infections in immunocompromised individuals, or primary pathogens affecting healthy individuals. The diagnosis of fungal infections often requires a combination of clinical evaluation, imaging studies, and laboratory tests, such as fungal cultures and molecular diagnostics. Treatment of fungal infections may involve antifungal drugs, surgical intervention, or supportive care. Some fungal infections, such as invasive candidiasis and aspergillosis, can be life-threatening if not promptly recognized and treated.
