Antimicrobial Resistance
Antimicrobial resistance is a growing global concern due to the increasing prevalence of multidrug-resistant pathogens. Resistance mechanisms can be intrinsic or acquired through mutation or gene transfer. Inappropriate use of antibiotics, both in clinical and agricultural settings, contributes to the development of resistance. The spread of resistant strains poses a threat to public health as it limits treatment options and increases the risk of treatment failure. Strategies to combat antimicrobial resistance include antimicrobial stewardship programs, surveillance of resistance patterns, and the development of new antimicrobial agents and alternative treatment modalities.
